New Collectors is pleased to present, Nightshade, a solo show of Ryan Rennie’s most recent ceramic work. Rennie creates plaster press moulds using bowls, vases, flowers, and handmade shapes that are covered in plastic wrap or tin foil. The moulds are then cast in ceramic and glazed before their second firing. The texture looks like draping fabric, and references marble statues of drape-covered urns, but is more similar to a vacuum-sealed, mass-produced good. Although each piece could be a multiple, he chooses only to make one or two pieces from the same mould.
